New Wig: “Opulence”

I have had my eye on a wig called “Opulence” by Gabor ever since I first saw it.  This wig is part of the Gabor Next Luxury Lace Front collection.  The color is GL 8-29/Hazelnut.  The front is longer than the back, and it has a subtle stacked back.  It features a lace front along with a mono top.  The lace front does not require any adhesive, and it is used for a more natural look.  This is my second lace front wig, and my first was actually by Gabor as well.  I need to take a side by side picture of my two lace front wigs.  I do not think that the lace is identical, and the knots on this wig seem to be darker.  From what I have experienced, you can’t expect each wig to be identical even if they are made by the same brand.

The “Opulence” looks like a style that I would have worn with my bio hair.  I have been hesitant to try it because of the price.  I like to stay around $100, and this one goes for almost $200.  Lace front and/or mono top wigs are more costly due to the more natural look.  Fortunately, someone purchased it, and they didn’t end up liking it so they sold it to me.  This is a great way to purchase more expensive wigs that you normally wouldn’t be able to afford.  The negative thing about doing it that way is that you might not get the exact color that you would want.  I was hesitant on this one because of the color.  I figured I would like it, but I would have preferred it in a more darker or lighter shade like a dark brown.  Hazelnut ended up being very nice.  It looks like a brown shade online, but in my pictures it looks like a more red shade.  It has brown, red and blonde in it, which I like.  I wouldn’t consider it a favorite color of mine, but I like it.  After trying it on, I think this might be my favorite style of all.  I only wish that the front was slightly longer.  I might end up trying it in a different color one day.

I feel like the fiber of this wig reminds me more of human hair than my other wigs.  That is because it isn’t as silky and smooth as my other wigs.  I like the silky fiber, but I know that most human hair is not like that.  I have taken pictures of the “Opulence” including one of the cap.

Thank you to the person who sold this to me!

Trendy Eyeglasses

I’ve found a way to be trendy with eyeglasses!  I have noticed people lately wearing different sized eyeglasses from celebrities to people around town.  I’ve seen a lot of young adults especially wearing them, and I just assumed that they weren’t prescription glasses.  Each time that I have purchased a new pair of prescription eyeglasses, I have tried to find something fun and different.  I have ended up with the typical framed glasses each time.  I even wanted a fun color, but those were only available in the children’s section.  I just end up wearing them at home, and that is all.

Last week I saw a woman post a picture wearing a different sized pair of glasses just like I had seen recently, and I responded asking where she purchased them.  Well, a few hours later, before I saw a reply from the woman I found an answer.  Like with many things that I find, I saw a video on the TODAY show website titled  “Thick-framed glasses:  From geek to chic”.  I watched the video, and it was discussing those same glasses that I have seen become a big trend.  They highlighted one company called Warby Parker.  I went to look for their website so I could see what they offer.  They have both sunglasses and eyeglasses.  They have several choices of eyeglasses for women.  Come to find out, they work with a non-profit organization to deliver one pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair that they sell.  I am wondering if this is where TOMS got its idea to sell sunglasses and give eyesight to those in need.

The neat thing behind the Warby Parker website (link below) is that with the majority of the items you can do a “Virtual Try-On”.  It allows you to upload a picture or to take one with your webcam.  Here is an example of when I did it on their website.  I found a couple of ones that I liked so far.  The frames are affordable, in my opinion, as well.  The negative thing with it is that they do not accept insurance.  However, you might be able to obtain reimbursement for a portion of the cost of the prescription glasses depending on your insurance provider.  You can get a receipt from them for that purpose.  I want to say that I spent the same amount on a pair of eyeglasses even when using my insurance.  They can fill a wide range of prescriptions including those with astigmatism.  However, there are limitations so check those before you place any orders.  I am going to have to check the limitations myself, because I may have too strong of a prescription.  I may have cool eyeglasses to look forward to now.  Who knew I could get excited about going to the eye doctor!

*The hair in this picture is new, and I will be posting more about it soon.

“Henna Crowns”

I am so thankful for the TODAY show & their website.  I keep finding interesting information about different topics.  I came across an article titled “After chemo hair loss, ‘henna crowns’ help heal”.  This is so neat!  According to the article, a business named Henna Heals is using a form of henna to transform the heads of people with cancer and alopecia.  There are pictures in the article, and if you would like to view them, please click link below.  The business is based in Toronto.  I wish I lived there so I could have it done.  I would go in a heartbeat!  That is so neat.  Hopefully, it will gain popularity, and they will offer it in other large cities.  However, I wonder if you would be able to shave your head the days after having it done, because my hair grows quickly so after the 2nd or 3rd day it might not be as visible.  It might just be for those in particular who aren’t currently growing any hair on their head.  I’ve thought about getting a tattoo on my head.  The negative thing would be if I wanted to go bald to work after having it done, I’m not sure how professional it would look.

TOMS

Glitter TOMS

TOMS

A couple of years ago I was at an airport waiting in the security line.  It was a small airport, and there weren’t many people around in the security area.  I noticed a couple ahead of me, and the woman’s shoes caught my eye.  They were gold with glitter.  I immediately said to the woman, “I love your shoes”.  She told me that they were “TOMS”.  I had heard of TOMS before, but I had only seen the plain colored shoes.  I wanted those shoes right away!  The following day I went online to see if I could purchase them.  They also had a few other colors to choose from, but I guess since I saw the gold in person that is what I really wanted.  I ordered the gold, and loved them when they arrived in the mail.  I received compliments each time that I wore them.

Now… they are everywhere!  My sister, who usually doesn’t like glitter, even has a pair of the silver ones.  I am now loving all of TOMS stuff.  I have 2 pairs of their shoes, and I’m currently tempted to purchase a 3rd pair.  They have a limited edition style available right now that can only be found online that will support the FEED foundation as well as TOMS.

If you haven’t ever heard of TOMS, please click on the following link to view their website.  They have the “one for one” philosophy.  Each time someone purchases one pair of their shoes, they give away a pair of shoes to a child in another country who doesn’t have any shoes.  Their shoes aren’t cheap, but it is for a good cause.  Not only do you get a great pair of shoes, but so does a child who really needs them.  They just started a new campaign where they are selling sunglasses, and with each pair sold they are giving sight to someone in another country.  I have had my eye on one pair of the sunglasses ever since they came out.

With a lot of charities, you might donate money, but you never know where exactly it is going.  With TOMS, you know exactly what will happen with the money.  I think it is a great concept, and I am a supporter of them.  I like to spread the word about companies like this, and now my stepmom owns two pairs of their shoes.  They also sell a few clothing items for men and women.  You can purchase their items online at the website below, or a few stores sell them as well like Sun & Ski Sports.

Fashion Website

I grew up in a small town where the fun thing to do on the weekends was go to the mall.  We would sometimes shop, and sometimes just walk around.  It was the place to be seen.  Lol.  So, ever since then, I have enjoyed shopping.  I like fashion, and watching trends.  I don’t always follow them, but I like to see what other people are wearing.  I don’t read magazines often, but I like to look online.  I really enjoy some fashion shows like “Project Runway”.  I have watched that show almost since the beginning.  It is neat to watch them buy the fabric then make the garment then have it walk down a runway.  There is a show that just ended called “Fashion Star”.  I didn’t want to watch it at first, but my Mom said it was good so I caught on when it was almost finished.  It is very different from other fashion shows, but I have to say that I liked it.  When I was a child, I dreamed of becoming a buyer for Gap, Inc.  I didn’t really want to make or design garments, I wanted to buy them.  Lol.  I guess that stems from all of my time at the mall growing up.  I might from time to time write posts on here about Fashion as well.

The reason why I am writing this post is to share a great website with everyone that I have grown to like very much over the past year.  It is a website that sells items at a discount.  Each day they offer new items so you can find something new each day.  However, those items will only be available for one or two days.  It can be something to decorate your home, an item for the kitchen, a pair of shoes, a dress or even a business suit.  They sell women’s, men’s and children’s items.  Here are examples of what I have purchased:

Ariat boots for about $70 originally $150

Lucky Brand boots for about $40 originally $170

Michael Kors dress for about $20 originally $90

I really like finding items that are nice and a good quality at such a discount.  I have also purchased a Calvin Klein business suit from them so if you are perhaps going to be interviewing soon, you can find a really nice suit at a discount from them.  They do offer returns unless it is a ”Final Sale” item.  Most of what I have purchased was a “Final Sale” item.  If you join, be on the lookout for their final sales.  It will offer items that have been discounted even more.  You can have the website send you reminders or emails each day so you can see what is new for that day.  At least look for your favorite brands to see what they offer.  For example, today they are going to have new Lucky Brand items so I will go look for me and my stepmom who loves their clothes.  I spread the word about this site to my friends and family all the time.  It is a great way to get nice items for cheaper than in the store.  They have all sorts of designers so if you see Gucci one day, don’t think that is all that they offer.  I have even seen Coach purses come up a few times, and I know that those are very popular.  If you would like me to send you an invitation to join through email, please leave a comment and I can do that.  Here is the link:

New Wig: “Toni”

I had been thinking about purchasing this wig for a while.  Then, I randomly went into a wig shop one afternoon.  I was looking around and one wig caught my eye.  I grabbed the tag, and it suprisingly said “Toni” by Rene of Paris.  I thought that I should give it a try if I liked it in person out of all the wigs in the shop.  Here are pictures of my “Toni”.  The bangs came long on it, and I didn’t want to wear them side swept.  I decided to attempt to trim the bangs myself for the first time.  I took before and after photos for you so you may see what the wig looks like out of the box as well.  The color is “Sugar Cane”.

My Wigs

By request, here are pictures of the wigs that I have owned over time.  I have purchased a range of styles and colors.  Some of them are worn out, and have been tossed.  Others are still wearable.  I have left a few out, but once I find good pictures of those I will add them.  Hope this helps someone in some way!  If you would like more information about a wig, please leave your question, and I will reply.  You may find all of them online if you do a search by the name of the picture.  For example, search “Jackson wig”, and you should see it for sell online.

Bald Dolls Coming Soon!

I found out some very exciting news today!  Coming soon… a bald doll to Toys “R” Us!

http://www.forbes.com/sites/larissafaw/2012/04/25/mgas-bratz-dolls-one-up-barbie-on-going-bald/

I am so excited.  This is a step in the right direction.  Mattel hasn’t agreed to sell any bald Barbies in stores yet, but maybe this will show them that it is a good idea.  It looks like one or more of the ”Bratz” dolls will come with a hat.  That is so cute!  I believe this will help kids with cancer & Alopecia.  It will show them that it is okay to be bald, and that they get to wear fun hats too.  I really hope it helps children with Alopecia just as much, because for most of them they will  have to deal with Alopecia for the rest of their life.  I think I want to go to my local hospital and try to find out if I can purchase some dolls for the children there suffering from cancer.  I’m going to visit my local Toys “R” Us once the dolls are out for sale, and I’ll post pictures on here!  I think I will purchase one for myself as a reminder that bald is beautiful too.  I can’t even explain how excited I am to hear this wonderful news.  It warms my heart!  I found this from the company’s website showing celebrities with the dolls…

Adele

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504803_162-57376077-10391709/60-minutes-funniest-moments-with-adele/

If you like Adele, click on the link above.  It is a video of behind the scenes footage of her interview with Anderson Cooper.   It is an adorable and funny video.  I think I love her even more now, including Anderson.

For those who wear wigs, this is a cute video to watch, and a good reminder that wearing wigs is not a big deal.  Adele takes Anderson into her bedroom, and she has hair pieces on the bed!   She names her wigs.  That is awesome.  You go Adele!  I hope more celebrities come forward and talk about wigs like her.  I wish they would have shown that part on the airing of the show instead of only in the behind the scenes footage.

Thank you to a member of wigsupport.com for posting this video.

Hats

A great way to cover your head  and be fashionable at the same time… HATS!  I love hats, and they are perfect for summer time.  They are perfect for winter time too!  There are so many variations to them, and it can be a great fashion statement.  I like the large brim hats for summer or a baseball hat is great too.  For winter, I love ones that are knit and stretchy.  Not only will they protect you from the sun, but they can cover up any hair loss.

Here are some pictures of my favorite hats.  The large brim hat was a birthday gift from my Mom.  I think she got it at her local Hallmark store.  I was wanting a good hat for shade for the pool.  The baseball hat says “Save the Tatas” for breast cancer awareness.  I have had it for a very long time, and I have gotten asked one time when wearing it if I am a cancer survivor.  The red hat is my favorite winter hat.  It keeps my head really warm!  The other two are more great winter hats.  The leopard print one is a trapper hat for when I really need to keep warm or when I am feeling goofy.

Two stores that sell cute ones for reasonable prices are Urban Outfitters and Target.  Both of them sell online so you don’t have to go to the store.
